The family behind Via Volcan is passionate about coffee, so they don’t take a single shortcut throughout the bean-to-cup process. It begins on their family farm in Panama, where they lovingly cultivate their coffee crop at the perfect altitude, in particularly rich soil. When the beans are ready to be harvested, they do so by hand and allow the java to dry in the sun. The next step is to ship the beans to the family’s own micro-roastery in Virginia, where each small batch receives careful attention.

 

The final leg of the journey begins at the micro-roastery’s storefront, where the family sells their artfully crafted coffee beans. You can head to the store in Old Town Alexandria Tuesdays through Sundays to grab a bag of coffee that suits your taste buds—the staff can point you in the right direction, as their menu is ever-changing—or order online to simply swing in to pick up your beans, or have them sent directly to your doorstep.
